- Purpose: This post of Associate Dean is responsible for the teaching and learning experience including the quality enhancement of teaching and learning, academic advice and the development of courses, subject development of the Faculty, through the development of subjects and modules in the Faculty, blending the outputs of Research and Practice into the content and delivery of Modules. This will require the coordination of the Heads of Departments and Subject Groupings including line management responsibilities as delegated by the Dean.
Responsibilities
- To provide strategic leadership and support for teaching and learning programs within the Faculty, including strategic planning, program development, and evaluation;
- To ensure the Faculty has a Teaching and Learning Strategy aligned with the University Teaching and Learning Strategy and annual action plans are created and achieved;
- To ensure appropriate representation from the Faculty on all University wide decision-making bodies concerned with teaching and learning;
- To work with the First Deputy Rector (Academic) and University support services to develop and strengthen the quality of the their school’s teaching and learning;
- To be responsible within the Faculty of their School to ensure quality of the design and delivery of programs of study at the undergraduate level and, when taught by their faculty, the postgraduate level;
- To work with Student Services and Administration staff to ensure the Faculty sets and meets appropriate targets for the number and quality of students admitted to programs, and appropriate targets for increasing access, aligned with University policies and procedures; and, where input is required, to support the Faculty’s recruitment;
- To work closely with Heads of Departments on the teaching portfolio and refresh it according to the Faculty's Teaching and learning Strategy while aligning with the University’s key strategic goals for teaching and learning;
- To work with Associate Dean (Teaching & Learning) in other Schools to ensure that appropriate opportunities are taken for cross-Faculty working and to agree service teaching requirements as part of the planning process and on an ad hoc basis where required;
- To be responsible for disseminating experience and evidence of good and innovative practices in teaching and learning, and for monitoring the effectiveness of their operation;
- To strengthen the links between learning, teaching and research by identifying new opportunities for each to influence and interact with the other;
- To work with the Associate Dean (Research and Partnership) to develop the international focus of the Faculty with respect to programs and curricula;
- To ensure equality and diversity are respected throughout the student body of the Faculty and to demonstrate a ‘duty of care’ regarding the overall well-being of students;
- To line manage staff as appropriate;
- To work with Dean of School/ Heads of Departments with regard to the distribution and fairness of academic teaching and administration loads;
- To ensure the Faculty’s programs receive appropriate accreditation;
- To perform other responsibilities as requested by the Dean of School;
- Act as Dean in the absence of the Dean.
Requirements
EXPERIENCE
- Strong record of excellence in teaching;
- Effective management and leadership experience in an HE environment;
- Experience of working with diverse populations;
- Participation in collaborative teaching and learning initiatives;
- Experience in mentoring junior faculty, researchers and students;
- Understanding of and support for appropriate technology integration in an academic setting;
Conditions
Timing and Location
- You should be prepared to move to Tashkent, Uzbekistan by August/September 2025.
